Costa de la Luz
Beaches of Zahara de los Atunes
Kilometres of golden sand, open Atlantic and the deep blue of the Costa de la Luz: Zahara's shoreline is one of Cádiz's great beaches.
Zahara de los Atunes combines the village beach, quieter stretches and coastal areas such as Atlanterra. From Nuestra Zahara you are steps from the sand to enjoy Zahara Beach, Atlanterra, Los Alemanes and, a short drive away, iconic Bolonia.
Zahara de los Atunes beach
The village's main beach: a wide arc of fine sand, Atlantic swell and a seafront promenade. In season there are services and beach bars; off-peak the horizon feels almost endless. Ideal for families, sunset walks and combining a swim with a terrace by the sea.
- Best photo light: sunrise and late afternoon.
- In summer arrive early for shade or a quieter spot.
- East or west wind changes the swell — ask at reception.
Atlanterra
South of the centre, Atlanterra offers a wide beach, a residential feel and easy access from many local stays. Clear water, golden sand and less urban bustle than the main promenade: perfect for long towel days.
- Great if your stay is in or near Atlanterra.
- Wear comfortable shoes for some access paths.
- Ideal for families who want space on the sand.
Los Alemanes beach
Between Zahara and Barbate, Los Alemanes is a more open, natural stretch with dunes and less building. The Atlantic feels close and the scenery is classic Costa de la Luz.
- Bring water and sun protection: less natural shade.
- Excellent for long shoreline walks.
- Pair with a food stop in Zahara or Barbate.
Bolonia (nearby day trip)
About 20–25 minutes by car towards Tarifa, Bolonia is one of Cádiz's most photogenic beaches: a monumental dune, turquoise water and the Roman ruins of Baelo Claudia nearby. Worth a morning or a full day for nature and heritage together.
- In high season parking fills early.
- Respect the dune — it is a protected space.
- Combine swimming with a visit to Baelo Claudia.
